Next month, Bill Cosby will be sentenced following his conviction for aggravated sexual assault in April. In an effort to save what’s left of his once vast fortune – and keep it out of the hands of the US courts plus the initiators of several Civil Suits heading his way – the one-time US comedy legend let slip this week that he is converting part of his funds into digital currencies such as Bitcoin.
After decades of rumours and accusations but no convictions, on April 26th Bill Cosby’s luck finally ran out. The man once dubbed “America’s Dad” was found guilty on three charges of aggravated sexual assault, and faces as much as 30 years in jail when sentenced on September 24.
From I Spy to The Cosby Show
Since the mid-1960s, rumours had circulated as to Cosby’s sexual behaviour, but for more than 50 years, rumours are all they remained. Cosby gained fame in the hit TV series I Spy alongside the late Robert Culp in the 1960s. Cosby became a stalwart of US TV, but his greatest success would come in the mid-1980s with the the top-rated “The Cosby Show” sitcom which ran for eight seasons and turned Cosby into the biggest and best paid star in America.
When Cosby’s son was murdered in a robbery in 1997, the nation mourned with Cosby, and understood when he took a huge step away from the spotlight. Sexual misdemeanour rumours remained, but no case was ever brought against him.
Then, in 2014, a rising black comic named Hannibal Buress joked about the rape allegations against Crosby in his routine, and almost overnight a film clip of the incident went viral.
As a result, multiple women came forward and claimed that Cosby had drugged and raped them, and it was the accusation made by Andrea Constand for an incident that took place in 2004 which has proved Cosby’s undoing.
Multiple Claims Against Cosby’s $500 Million Fortune
There is little doubt that Bill Cosby will lose his freedom in late September, and at the age of 81, he is likely to either end his days behind bars, or be extremely elderly when he gets out. While Cosby knows that his own goose is cooked, he seems to be embarking on a “damage limitation” policy and attempting to hide some of his vast fortune – estimated to be in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
Leading the assault on Cosby’s cash will be Andrea Constand herself, but right behind her will be literally dozens of women filing civil suits dating as far back as the early 1970s, and as recently as 2008 in the Playboy Mansion.
Cosby is keen that his wife of 35 years Camille gets the bulk of his money. She has stuck by him and defended him vehemently, stating that while she knows that at times during their marriage Cosby had been unfaithful to her, she believes that the accusations against him of rape and molestation are false, and that he would be incapable of such actions.
Has Bad Bill Been Buying Bitcoin In Bulk?
Rumours have abounded this week that Cosby has sought out the advice of an expert in digital finance, who advised him to make a significant purchase of Bitcoin. As a result of this advice, Cosby reputedly purchased around $5 million worth of Bitcoins after being assured that said funds would be practically impossible to access by anyone except for himself (or possibly his wide Camille). This may be the first of multiple transactions, and Cosby desperately attempts to safeguard at least some of his money.
Some sources indicate that Cosby could also be planning to jump bail and escape, which would justify his intention to buy Bitcoin, although the fact that he is A) 81 years old and of poor health and B), one of the most recognizable people on the planet would seem to make such suggestions somewhat farfetched.
