While Brazil’s national team are favorites to win the World Cup in Russia this month, on a domestic level, both Atlético-PR and Corinthians will be sponsored by Inoovi’s IVI token next season, with the crypto startups covering player salaries, plus a host of other expenses.
Two top-flight Brazilian soccer clubs, Atlético-PR (Clube Atlético Paranaense) and the legendary Sao Paulo team Corinthians have signed sponsorship deals with Inoovi, the Hong Kong-based crypto startup which recently launched its “IVI” token specifically for the football market.
Corinthians & Atlético-PR
Atlético-PR won their only top-flight league title in 2001. Last season they finished 11th, although they tend to finish inside the top 10. Atletico’s Arena da Baixada stadium holds 42,300.
By comparison, Corinthians are one of the most famous Brazilian football clubs, alongside the likes of Fluminense FC, Palmeiras, Santos and Sao Paulo. Great players who have turned out for Corinthians include Socrates, the Brazilian Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez, Andriano, Roberto Carlos and Javier Mascherano.
According to the local cryptocurrency website Portal do Bitcoin, the president of Atlético-PR , Mario Celso Petraglia, revealed his club’s association with Inoovi this week, and announced it as an “innovation in the Brazilian sports market.”
Players To Be Paid In Crypto
Both teams have agreed to carry the Inoovi logo on their shirts, and it will also feature on the clubs websites. The players will do promotional work to encourage the use of the IVI token. Part of the players wages will also be paid in IVI.
Petraglia reminded the Brazilian soccer media that the cryptocurrency ecosystem is still in its infancy, and asked those reporters at the press conference to be patient, since not everyone easily understands how cryptocurrency works. Petraglia said:
“The cryptocurrencies have been gaining value and we have no doubts about it. I, in particular, will be part of (those who) will buy this currency as an investment for my personal savings and I will recommend it to everyone.”
Interestingly, when Petraglia was asked about the level of revenue the deal will bring in, he stated that it will be enough to transform the club. Inoovi’s chief executive officer and president Loic Lacam was present at the press conference, and he stressed that his company will support both football clubs in their transition to using cryptocurrency.
More Top Clubs Set To Sign With Inoovi
The Hong Kong-based startup clearly wants to make inroads into the global football market. As well as their sponsorship deals with Atletico and Corinthians, Inoovi have also been linked with the three biggest teams in Turkey – Besiktas, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk, plus several other teams are currently negotiating with Inoovi.
