Amanda “Mandy” J. Scott 25, New York City, US. New Yorker Mandy is the youngest of the team at 25, but with a bank-manager father and a chartered accountant mother, money and finance was always in her blood. An NYU grad who majored in finance, Mandy has been offered fast-track management internships at Deutsche Bank, HSBC and Morgan Stanley, but is taking some time out to study her new passion – cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. As she puts it: “You spend your whole life thinking a certain way, then bam! Something comes along that turns all that you believed upside down, and makes you question everything. That’s crypto.”
Michael Thompson is 46 and resides in Zurich, Switzerland. Michael “Mick” Thompson is a Cambridge graduate in business and politics, and the “senior citizen” of the team at 46, although his love of surfing and Iron Man competitions ensures he’s defying the ageing process – or so he says. Jaded from traditional business, Mick needed a fresh start, and in 2009 he embroiled himself in financial technology (FinTech) and the blockchain, and was a key figure in multiple early startups in Australia and Europe over the past decade. Mick now divides his time between Brisbane where his ex-wife and three kids are, and his residence in Zurich, where he has an office and works as a tech consultant for a portfolio of European clients. Oh, and when he has some spare time, he writes for us.
Park Chan-Hee is 35 and resides in Los Angeles South Korean born, Park’s family moved to LA when he was three. He attended UCLA and majored in computer tech. Since the arrival of blockchain technology a decade ago, Park has worked as software designer and programmer for multiple tech startups in the LA area. A hardcore Lakers fan and Henry Rollins advocate, Park sees crypto as the future, but thinks it might take decades before it replaces fiat currency worldwide.
Robert Keenan-Whitely is 37 and resides in London, UK. Rob describes himself as an Oxford under-grad, former London stock market trader, blogger, tech entrepreneur, triathlete. Rob loves his nephew Ollie, his cat Jinx, Chelsea FC and all things Tom Hardy, in that order. Believes Google, Twitter and Facebook are the enemy and want to destroy crypto, but it’s here to stay regardless. Admits to being a little embarrassed of his Hooray-Henry image, double-barreled surname and being on first name terms with several of the “Made In Chelsea” cast.
Yuri Besmanoff is 38 and resides in Berlin, Germany. Born in Germany, Yuri’s parents are from St. Petersburgh, and his wife is French. Yuri earned bachelor degrees in business and computer tech at Technische Universität Berlin. He travelled to the US, where he spent three years studying business and computer tech in Chicago, majoring in both. He has also lived in England, Australia and France, and he speaks fluent German, Russian, French and English. Married with a young son, Yuri is now based full time in Berlin, mainly he says to see his beloved Hertha (Bundesliga soccer team) play regularly. A crypto believer since the early days, Yuri sees this is the first of several phases – and coins – before digital currency inevitably takes over.
